"Re-Coding Shakespeare" from Central Saint Martins to the RSC

The RSC currently has a small exhibition on at their theatre in Stratford Upon Avon with work from the students of Central Saint Martins. They were all commissioned to create pieces of work representing their interpretation of Shakespeare's work.

A couple of works were motion/ projection based. One that caught my eye the most was a piece called "Experimental Language" by Ellie Turner.

The piece was a projection through a small string curtain. It is of woodland scenes and city scenes, with voice actors reciting the monologues of Romeo and Juliet one after the other. The music is from the soundtrack of Romeo and Juliet. The images oddly reflect the words said really well and timed to do so. This is piece is believe is to evoke the emotions and recognition from the audience in Shakespeares words that we are supposed to be able to have. Her approach with this piece, I think, was to focus on the language of Shakespeare and make people realise we still use much of it today, even if we don't realise it.

If I make anything from this project, it can join a movement that has already taken hold. Just another piece to support the others.
